Who is this Man-Woman?
You can call me Mary John or Jaimie John. I am non-binary (I call myself "a-brain-in-a-jar") and go by she/he. I am Chicano aka Mexican-American. I am currently in college getting a B.S. in Pyschology and a Minor in Biology. I am in my early 20s and have never kissed anyone. I have four friends and three older siblings. I take gabapentin, methylphenidate, latuda, lurasidone, propranolol, fluvoxamine, and clonzapam. I am diagnosed with ASD, OCD, ADHD, social anxiety, and depression. I used to be diagnosed with bipolar type 2 and Tourette's. That is to say, I have been through the psych industry ringer and harbor a deep bitterness towards it. I wasn't diagnosed until I was 20 after I went to the mental hospital.

I am autistic, have several autistic family members, and am studying autism. That's to say, it takes up a lot of mental space. I need to let it out. You will find diary entries about autism, poetry and art about autism, essays and discussion of research on autism, and my familial autistic history. And also I write weird sorry.
Autism (AKA Autism Spectrum Disorder AKA ASD) is a common neurodevelopmental "disorder" or "neurotype." The DSM5 describes it as having two disordered behaviors: social and restricted/repititve. More and more, we are discovering the neural pathways of autism, and it has more to due with sensory input than we thought. "Monotropism" is a leading theory––that autistic brains are wired to have intense focus on one input rather than ambient awareness over mutiple inputs like most people.

These are all my opinions. I am not a professional. With something as complicated as autism, it is natural that there are conflicting opinions. Having different opinions is good and healthy as debate leads to further understanding, and we need different perspectives. You will not agree with everything I have to say and that is good!
